The Academy for Environmental Leadership SA (AEL) is an accredited academic institution, which offers matriculants the opportunity to partake in a one year course of environmental and conservation studies.
After the successful completion of the course, students receive a NQF level 5 qualification, which enables them to enter a number of jobs or to proceed with further academic ventures.
AEL is proud to announce Mr. Koos Theron from Stellenbosch as the campus principle of AEL at Uizip near Upington in the Northern Cape.
Mr. Theron accepts responsibility for the entirety of all student affairs, that include accommodation and meals, supervision and well-being. He will also be responsible for the upkeep of the campus, infrastructure and staff affairs.
Mr. Theron had a long and successful career in the South African National Defence Force. As part of his duties, he was responsible for the settlement of young recruits, military staff, logistics, financial and strategic planning. “Koos has extensive knowledge in the management and support of young people and it is therefore an honour to have him on campus. I got to know him as a remarkable human who treats people with great respect and it will be clear to the parents that their children are left in capable hands” says Mr. Gys Botha, chief executive officer of academics at AEl.
After his military career, Mr. Theron led several security-oriented assignments in Africa.
“The campus manager at Uizip must be disciplined, hard-working and loyal and for those reasons Koos fits our management team perfectly. We are proud to have him on board” says Adv. Fef le Roux, chairman and director of AEL.
The academy is situated on the banks of the Orange River and has extensive grounds, sport-fields, a swimming pool, gymnasium, library and laboratory. Besides what is offered academically, students are also exposed to a wide variety extracurricular activities like canoe trips, 4×4 driving skills, field art and trips to Kgalagadi and Namibia
